1 Corinthians 15:1-4
Let me now remind you, dear brothers and sisters, of the Good News I preached to you before. You welcomed it then, and you still stand firm in it.
It is this Good News that saves you if you continue to believe the message I told you—unless, of course, you believed something that was never true in the first place.
I passed on to you what was most important and what had also been passed on to me. Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said.
He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day, just as the Scriptures said. [NLT]
When you believed the gospel, you were saved. In other words by your faith in the gospel you received salvation. See Paul’s words in verse 3, he says “what was most important” what? The gospel by which they were saved, so we can infere that salvation is the “most important” of all things. A man’s salvation is most important to God amongst every other thing concerning the man. I’ll explain soon.
Remember salvation is through faith in the death, burial and resurrection of Christ (the gospel)
Romans 1:For I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ. It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes—the Jew first and also them Gentile.
So in Paul’s first contact with the Corinthians he preached to them the gospel, so that in believing they would be saved. Jesus instructed the disciples prior to his ascension to preach his resurrection that men should receive salvation, this was after his 40 day “bible study convention” with them in Galilee 😄
Mark 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
The prophets prophesied about salvation through Christ’s sacrifice, Moses testified to Christ, so did David, God made a promise to Abraham about it,God told Eve about Christ.
1 Timothy 2:4
who wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth.
It’s God’s will primarily that every man is saved. Yes God wants every man to prosper, to walk in good health, but above all these God wants every man to be saved. When you believed the gospel at that single moment you were saved, you received the spirit of God to dwell in you forever, you were reedemed, santified, forgiven of your sins, purified, you received the very nature of God. All these were not different things that happened to you simultaneously, No, they are the same. That moment you began your walk with God, you became part of God’s age old plan.
And she will have a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.”
“From their sins” Jesus saved you from your sins when you believed, now you’ll have to understand that sin itself is a nature, it was the nature that made man to sin. We should learn to see Sin as first a nature, it was the nature that led to the actions. Every man born to the earth carried this nature of sin, including you. You didn’t have to commit sin to be a sinner, by birth you were (just like your citizenship😅). That nature was that of death, condemnation, of the nature of Satan, because of that nature you were separated from God.
A very big but, the story didn’t end there, God wouldn’t have you live in sin and death. Christ, God’s plan since the world began, died for your sins. Ephesians 2:2-5 (NLT)
You used to live in sin, just like the rest of the world, obeying the devil—the commander of the powers in the unseen world. He is the spirit at work in the hearts of those who refuse to obey God.
All of us used to live that way, following the passionate desires and inclinations of our sinful nature. By our very nature we were subject to God’s anger, just like everyone else.
that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!)
Jesus took upon the nature of sins, Paul said “he became sin”, that nature of sin was crucified with him on the cross, he took the punishment for sin. Leaving you and I free from sin, guilt, condemnation and reproach. So before we came into light, we were in the darkness. We were, we were, we were….
You can never be in darkness again, you permanently exist in light. You may sin now but that can never take you back to where you were, where you are is where God is. You may not feel it to be so, it may not seem so, but it is so. For we are not led by what we feel. In darkness we were very far from God, inasmuch as God wanted to relate with us, he just couldn’t, we were ignorant, blinded from his light. We could never really understand God, we tried different ways to understand God. It never really worked as we were a nature short of his presence. Our own way was by our works. God never stopped loving us, the only way he could relate with us was through Christ. The devil tried to keep us blinded so we would never leave his clutches, like blind mice (confused) we were on the earth, yielding to every temptation as the maize in the summer. For once God never stopped loving us, neither was he angry. All his possible anger was vented on Christ, he waited for you and I to receive salvation, freedom.
And the day came, the day you believed, in hell “all hell broke loose” 😂, they had lost another one, God had a new habitation, you became a son, you signed the contract which gave you all full benefits of a son, a member of “The kingdom”, “The family”. Your name was indeed written, by the blood, never to be erased. You became part of God’s plan. God was so excited to have you in his family, his angels were rejoicing all over.
That was the best thing that ever happened to you, truly it was.
